Teeth and "Self Repair":
Your teeth undergo an assault from outside influences unlike any other part of your body. Acid foods, bacterial acids, brushing and chewing all dissolve and erode part of your teeth every day. Fortunately, teeth also have a self-repair mechanism unlike any part of your body. In fact, without this self-repair mechanism your teeth would simply dissolve away in a matter of weeks.
This self-repair process uses essential ions of calcium and phosphorus present in your saliva to, literally, re-grow the crystalline structure of your teeth. No other part of your body has such a process.
Self-Repair and the Modern World:
Unfortunately our modern diets and habits can sometimes overwhelm this self-repair process. The damage occurring is simply too much for the salivary ions to keep pace with or we may simply not have enough salivary ions available. This is particularly true for some individuals in high-risk groups. That is where Oravive and NovaMin come in...
What is NovaMin?
NovaMin is composed of elements naturally occurring in body (and tooth) chemistry: Calcium, Phosphorus, Sodium and Silica. Its chemical name is "Calcium Sodium Phosphosilicate". NovaMin is based on a technology developed for surgical bone regeneration, and has been successfully used in nearly one million bone surgeries.
When NovaMin contacts water or saliva (during tooth brushing, in this case), it releases fully-active ions of calcium and phosphorus. These ions are identical to those present in normal, healthy saliva - just in higher concentrations. Furthermore, after brushing, microscopic NovaMin particles stick to the teeth and continue to release ions for hours afterwards. These essential ions ensure that the natural self-repair process can take place in an accelerated and enhanced manner. Learn more about NovaMin.
Oravive and Gum Health:
Oravive has been clinically proven to give you healthier looking, healthier feeling gums. Oravive has powerful plaque-fighting ingredients that protect your gums. In university based clinical studies, plaque was significantly reduced and gums were 59% healthier looking in just 6 weeks of normal use. You can’t have a healthy looking smile with red, swollen gums.
Oravive and Fluoride:
Oravive is a "fluoride-free" toothpaste. Fluoride has been shown to have substantial positive effects on preventing tooth decay. However, there are also negative side effects to excessive ingestion of fluoride. Evidence is mounting that everyday ingestion of fluoride through normal food, beverage and water intake supplies most or all of the fluoride necessary for good oral health. For this reason Oravive does not supplement with fluoride.
Are there any special instructions for using Oravive?
Oravive is meant to be used as any other toothpaste. It is recommended that you not use mouth rinses, eat, or drink for at least 30 minutes after brushing. After that time you are invited to continue with your normal hygiene routine. There are no specific dosage recommendations. We would always recommend that you consult your dentist or your child's dentist before choosing any toothpaste product currently available.
Who should use Oravive?
Oravive is a toothpaste that is safe for use by children and adults. It is non-fluoride toothpaste made of the highest quality materials and approved for use by the FDA. Feel free to mention Oravive with NovaMin® to your dentist. Your dentist can review our website to get further information.
Is Oravive safe for use with sensitive teeth?
Oravive actually forms a layer that fills in the dentinal tubules on the surface of your teeth. This way it stops any fluid from reaching the nerve of the tooth, thereby decreasing any sensitivity that is a result of your enamel loss. Currently there are no products on the market that will re-grow enamel, but studies have shown Oravive increases the hardness of your dentin (the layer below the enamel).
Can Oravive be used during pregnancy or while nursing?
Concerning Pregnant Women and Nursing Mothers: Oravive has never been tested in clinical studies on pregnant women, but we have no reason to believe that there will be any problems as with any other toothpaste on the market.
Can children brush with Oravive?
Concerning Children and Toddlers: Oravive is non fluoride toothpaste that is safe for use by children. Oravive has shown in clinical studies to kill bacteria associated with cavities.
